Guest is asking: I have been searching online and can’t figure it out. I have been able to do it a few times by accident, but I have no idea how I did it. How do you lock the focus?I will also mention that I misplaced my manual and can’t find it right now.

I’ve had a look online and can’t find anything about AF lock on an S3 on it.
If it was a new feature they should be crowing about it.

Maybe it’s just standard lock and drag like the cheaper Canon DSLRs ?? Remember I’m a dummy about this though. I feel like a fraud even answering. Lizzie.

You can get a copy of the manual at this website:
    http://www.retrevo.com/s/Canon-S3-IS-Digital-Cameras-manual/id/200dj084/t/2/
download and save to your computer…then you’ll have a backup copy :-)
You may need to find a pdf of the Advanced Guide for this feature.

You can download (and save a copy) of the S3 IS guides from Canon.com.

The link below will allow you to download both the Basic and the Advanced User Guides…

But to help you…you just need to aim the camera so that an object at the same focal distance as the main subject is centered in the AF frame.
Then press the shutter button halfway and press the MF button. Re-aim the camera to compose the shot and then shoot.
To release the AF Lock, just press the MF button.
