I fully agree about sticking with Canon. The S2 IS (5MP) was superceded by the S3 IS (6MP), and the current model is the S5 IS (8MP).
Any new model Canon is bound to have just as good and even better image quality, so you have quite a few models to choose from (depending on your budget and what features you need). Just make sure it has IS (image stabilization).

So, if you still want that great 12x optical zoom and the full manual controls, plus a few minor improvements, then the S5 IS might be the right one for you.
But, having said that, it’s not without it’s flaws (high ISO could be better). But, no camera is perfect, is it?

Canon also have a number of very good ultra compact models with IS, available, such as the SD950 IS with 12MP. The only downside with this camera is much less optical zoom and minimal manual control. But, it makes a perfect carry anywhere camera.

And there are the A models…
A650 IS, 12MP, 6x optical, flip out screen and full manual control.
The newly released…A590 IS, 8MP, 4x optical, full manual control.
    etc. etc. etc.

    It’s your choice….
    good luck

If you really like your Canon Power Shot IS, the replacement camera is the Canon Power Shot S5 IS. The S5 has more megapixels than your old camera did, which means better pictures and potentially bigger prints. Its features and handling are very similar to the S2 you use to have. So you won’t require reeducation in order to use it. If you bought your camera new, you will also like the fact that the S5 sells for about $100 less than you paid for your S2 when you bought it.
You have good taste in cameras. Treat yourself to the new S5 and enjoy it.
